These earrings are made from real lobster bands found and picked up by me along the Maine coast. Once lost at sea or shaken loose in rough weather, they eventually land on the beach, where I collect and transform them into one-of-a-kind earrings. Each pair is a true piece of Maine’s working waterfront, rescued from the shoreline and reborn as wearable coastal art.
Bands are put on a lobster's claws after they are hauled from the ocean and taken out of the traps. Bands are very important since they keep the lobsters from pinching human fingers and fighting with other lobsters while being transported.
After giving the bands a Clorox soak, I cut them and place each one inside a stainless steel pendant. I use jewelers resin to permanently seal the band in place which leaves no cracks.
Pendant size 10mm.
Stainless is a wonderful alternative to sterling silver because it will not fade, rust or tarnish. It is also great for sensitive ears.
